Formerly St. Louis College of Health Careers

Stepful College

Since 1981, we've trained healthcare professionals through hands-on, career-focused education. Today, as part of Stepful, we're building on that legacy to prepare even more students for careers that matter.

Our Story

Founded in 1981 to change the way healthcare professionals get trained.

St. Louis College of Health Careers (SLCHC) was founded in 1981 to change the way healthcare professionals get trained. Rather than relying solely on employer-led, on-the-job training, our founders combined the rigor of academic education with real, hands-on clinical experience — giving students a faster, more structured path into the workforce.

That approach has shaped everything we've built since: career-focused programs designed around what the healthcare field actually demands, not just what's easy to teach. Today, St. Louis College of Health Careers continues that mission as Stepful College.

SLCHC is now Stepful College

St. Louis College of Health Careers is now Stepful College. We're one of two schools owned and operated by Stepful, Inc. Two schools, one shared belief: a healthcare career should be within reach for anyone ready to work for it — no matter their background or circumstance.

Since launching, Stepful has graduated more than 30,000 students. Stepful partners with hospitals and health systems across the country to help them grow their own talent from within — getting the right people into the right roles when they're needed most.

Our faculty and hands-on approach to training haven't changed. What's changed is the support behind us. The same education that's helped students break into healthcare since 1981 is now backed by a partner who believes in that mission as much as we do.

Our Mission & Approach

Healthcare is always evolving, and so are we. We build our programs around what the field actually needs today, not what was true a decade ago, so our graduates walk into their careers ready for the work in front of them.

We've held to this approach since 1981. As Stepful College, we're carrying that commitment forward with more tools, resources, and support to prepare students for real careers.

A flexible, supportive place to learn

Whether you're starting your first career or changing paths entirely.

Real, hands-on training

Not just theory, but the clinical skills employers expect on day one.

Support that goes beyond the classroom

From enrollment through job placement.

Our Impact

For more than four decades, we've trained the people who show up for patients every day. What started as a handful of certificate programs has grown into a full range of allied health degrees, including associate and bachelor's-level programs, evolving right alongside the healthcare field itself.

Our graduates work in hospitals, clinics, and care settings that depend on skilled, well-trained healthcare professionals. From our first class in 1981 to today, one thing has stayed consistent: hands-on training that prepares students for the realities of the job.
